Down Syndrome Support Groups
BACHs parent
support group meetings provide a support system for families,
giving parents the emotional and educational assistance
they need in dealing with the hard choices and everyday
challenges that come with raising a child with special needs.
The Parent and Professional Support Group
for children with Down Syndrome was developed in February
of 2007 and has served 14 unduplicated caregivers to date.
The meetings are held at the BACH facility in Angleton once
a month on Monday evenings. Refer to the BACH Calendar for
upcoming meeting dates and timesmust register to attend!
In addition to the Professional and Parent
Support Groups, BACH offers childcare for parents during
the meeting times, referred to as our Therapy Play
Group for children with special needs and their siblings.
This play group allows the children to engage in sensory
rich activities while the parents are networking and receiving
valuable information in the support group meeting.
Occasionally, when parents attending do
not have any particular topics they feel need to be addressed
that given month, we have a Play Date instead
of a formal meeting. At our Play Dates the parents and children
get great mommy/daddy-and-me time together in our Integration
Station clinic, while still visiting and networking with
other parents and children facing the same daily struggles.
Please see our links page for additional
resources on Down Syndrome.
