“IT IS NOT WHAT YOU EARN THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY, IT IS WHAT YOU GIVE!”   Buster Curry “Granddaddy BACH” 2007

BACH (Brazoria County Association for Citizens with Handicaps) celebrated the 29th Annual BACH Barn Bash on June 5, 2010 at the Brazoria County Fair Grounds in Angleton.

This year’s BACH Barn Bash event was a tribute to Buster Curry (aka:  “GRANDDADDY BACH”), who passed away in January 2010, in the year that was his 100th on this planet.  Much of his century of life was spent here in Brazoria County, spreading blessings to a whole lot of folks, among others, thousands of “special” BACH children.

The first BACH catfish dinner/auction fundraising event took place out in the pasture at Buster & Lola Curry’s Bar None Ranch in Clute in 1981. After several annual fundraisers, and as the affair became more popular, attendee parking became an issue at the Ranch.   The event was moved to larger facilities, and finally in 2000 found a home at the Brazoria County Fairgrounds.  The BCFA auditorium busts at the seams with folks each year who come out to support families and their children who have disabilities or developmental delays.

The event featured free activities and games for children, regardless of their ability or disability; musical entertainment; and live and silent auctions as well as a fabulous catfish dinner with all the trimmings. Money raised will be used to provide services to children served by BACH’s Early Childhood Intervention and Support Services Programs.

BACH,  a 501c3 organization, has been providing valuable services to children with special needs in Brazoria County for 37 years.  These services include family counseling and education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutrition services, speech-language pathology, and others.  BACH’s primary program is the Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) Program, which serves children birth to three-years-old who have developmental delays or disabilities.  Children ages birth to 12-years-old participate in free recreational, support and ancillary programs provided by BACH.

Challenges to community members made by the 2010 BACH Barn Bash Steering Committee volunteers and BACH Board of Directors made for some heated stick horse races!  Thanks to everyone who saddled up!

A huge thanks of course to our families, volunteers, donors, bidders and everyone else who came out to support a great cause and have a great time!
